28 hours of driving. Six state lines. One truck with over 200,000 miles. 20 hours of Michelle Obama's Becoming. And three days to make it all happen.
Our truck's name is Al. She is named after the very kind mechanic who walked through buying it. To say that Al was packed full to the brim is an understatement. The fact that this truck made it over 1,800 miles with no check engine lights, no strange noises and all of our things still intact probably drained our good karma for a year.
Not looking good after day 2 of straight driving.
This is how Tyler spent most of the trip.
A wonderful New Mexican breakfast after driving for 15 straight hours. Right in time to beat the 7am rush!
After driving for almost a full day, it was time for rest in a nice looking Albuquerque park. Minus the strange looks from the occasional early morning dog walker, this was the best sleep of the trip.
Everything's bigger in Texas. Except my bladder.
The thing to get at Crazy Larry's BBQ is a Frito Pie which consisted of a bottom layer of fritos topped with brisket, bbq sauce and a fuckton cheese. Tyler got three meals for the price of one. The meat sweats lasted all the way to Arkansas.
Our final night was spent in the front seat of the truck in Tulsa. We are only two hours away from Bentonville at this point but needed to kill some time until our airbnb was available so cozied up next to Walmart parking lot and a 24-hour Wafflehouse. Between the stress dreams that someone was breaking into the truck and the contortion of our bodies against unreclining seats, this was probably the lowlight of the trip. But on the brightside, we can cross Tulsa off our list.
Finally made it to our airbnb in Bentonville! Turns out Fall has already arrived here with a forecast of 49º for the next week.
